Survey Crew Chief
Terms of Employment: Seasonal, Full Time, Shifts vary dependent on location.
Location: Project Site(s) - Hardisty, Edmonton, Central Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba
Salary or Contract: To be negotiated.
Job Requirements: Be familiar with and follow all rules, policies, guidelines and procedures, as per the company health and safety manual and all other applicable legislation; Apply surveying software to generate digital survey data, prepare reports including grade sheets and quantity sheets; Plan and execute timely and accurate surveys on different types of projects. Work outdoors in different types of weather and site conditions; Compute survey calculations for horizontal and vertical alignments related to surface construction as well as facility installations; Utilize ASCM monuments, permanent markers and secondary survey control including temporary benchmarks for horizontal and vertical positioning; Interpret technical designs and construction drawings, verify alignments and grades, identify errors and omissions; Provide supervision, guidance and mentoring to the Survey Assistant in the most positive manner assisting in assignments, calculations, procedures and equipment operation while promoting appropriate health and safety standards; Construction layout and slope staking for facility excavation and backfill, tank foundation construction, structural piling and access roads as well as other civil construction; Monitoring of ongoing construction operations including grade checks for trench bottoms, tank foundations, access roads as well as other civil construction; Conduct final as-built surveys on tank foundations, pipelines, roads and other facilities and provide reports using proper forms as directed by the Project Engineer or Supervisor; Confirm locations of existing utilities using line locator devices if registered to do so within proper legislation; Assist the Project Engineer and/or Field QA/QC Manager in developing as-built drawings for quality control and assurance turnover reports; Assemble and archive survey data in proper and orderly fashion; Maintain survey equipment, truck, computer and tools in good operating condition.
Qualifications: Technical competence in all field equipment, including conventional measurement devices such as transits, GPS and total stations, as well as proper recording of field books; Must own and supply all equipment and vehicles including Total Station, GPS, Builders Level, Laptop, Survey Software, etc. Ensures equipment and vehicles are properly operated, maintained, as well as licensed and registered; Knowledge of common construction survey principals including cut/fill slope staking, cross-sectional volume surveys, site localization and positioning, final as-built surveying, horizontal and vertical curves; 5 years minimum experience working in the civil construction industry as a Party Chief. Experience working in and around plant facilities such as manifolds, tanks and pipeline corridors is beneficial; Be punctual, dependable and competent in one’s position while maintaining a professional appearance and behavior; Able to interpret construction drawings and visualize them in order to properly lay out parameters for construction operations; Understand the client’s standards and specifications in order to properly conduct monitoring surveys of ongoing construction operations; Manage time efficiently and work with minimal supervision on routine tasks while thinking logically and solving problems; Maintain good communication with coworkers and act as a member of a team in order to complete work efficiently; Strong computer skills are a must, including competence in survey interface software as well as Microsoft Office applications. Some knowledge of AutoCAD is a benefit; Good decision making skills and a willingness to be accountable and responsible for decisions; Post secondary education in Geomatrics or Civil EngineeringTechnology is an asset; You must have all valid safety certificates (First Aid/CPR, CSTS, and H2S and Global Ground Disturbance Level II) before starting work; If contracted by Greg’s you must maintain your WCB certification, a min of 2 million dollars in business insurance and proof of company registration.; Must be able to work in various outdoor conditions including winter and summer construction seasons; Must be able to work in various locations of Western Canada including BC, AB, SK and MB; On-site truck must have a min of 2 million dollars liability insurance. Copy of which must be submitted to office in prequalification process; Site Trucks must have a 20 lb ABC Dry fire extinguisher mounted in truck and a #2 Alberta first aid kit. All employees are required to submit to and pass Pre-Access Drug and Alcohol testing on the date of orientation.
