FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Hello Everyone!
Unfortunately we have been off to a slow start this year with projects, but we have been very busy in the Red Deer Office, bidding a lot of projects (more than ever); hopefully we get some soon. I still believe it will be a good year, but it will be a late start; late April to May before most of what we are bidding gets started. I must admit that the slowdown has been good for getting loose ends cleaned up and preparing the company for another busy season.
Don't worry everyone, spring is around the corner and we will be busy soon! We have hired a lot of people, full-time, to better organize and prepare us for bigger and better construction seasons for years to come.
Trevor Bitzer, Scott Rogers and myself had a great time at the Olympics, thanks to our friends at Layfield. What a great Olympics to watch. Makes you proud to be a Canadian!

Project Updates:
Enbridge - Line 13 Reversal Pre-Reversal
Kelly Morgan has completed pile driving at Regina & Kelso. Crew will be moving to Kerrobert and Cromer to drive piles, starting next shift. Crew has off loaded and placed DRA skids at Gretna, Cromer and Souris. Shawn Leskow has been hleping Kelly out by loading and setting the DRA skid at the Hardisty Terminal and driving the piles at the Hardisty Terminal. Shawn and his crew will be dring piles at the Edmonton Terminal as well, this shift.
Hardisty Shop:
Kevin, Troy, Jake & Dave continue working on getting all the equipment ready for spring. Almost caught up; just putting liners in gravel trailers, and inspecting and certifying Crusher #2.
SNC Lavalin/Alta Link - Ellerslie Sub Station:
Glenn Turner reports that piles have been drilled and pile excavation & concrete capping going at a consistent pace. At time of reporting, project is 78% complete.
Hardisty Operations:
Equipment haulers demobed Crusher #1 from the Redwater stockpile at the beginning of February.
Virden, MB:
Duwayne along with Klinton continue to work on renovations of the office. After moving into a farm house near town, Duwayne now calls Virden his home. No projectes currently ongoing, however the Virden Office is now officially up and running. Bitzy is the new Virden Operations Manager.
Red Deer Shop:
The shop has seen a steady stream of equipment coming and going from everywhere including Saskatchewan & Manitoba. During the cleaning process, a few pieces of equipment were discovered to contain mice nests; not a very welcome sight. A reminder to all operators, PLEASE clean out old lunches, cans, bottles, paper & any other debris from the cab, when finished operating. These creatures may want to come to Alberta, but we don't want to give them the idea that cabs of GCS equipment is a good home. Remember: Garbage In - Garbage Out!
Notes from Payroll:
-
Payroll bases the taxes on residents of Alberta. If your residence is anything other than Alberta, you should consult a financial planner, or someone like H&R Block, to see what you need to do so that you don't get a big tax bill in April.
Greg's Contracting Services Ltd. has some available options to avoid a large tax bill including having extra taxes taken off each cheque, or investing in RRSP's. If you are interested in doing either of the above, please contact Becky F. in payroll.
-
You can now receive your paystubs through email instead of through snail mail. Anyone wishing to use this new service provided by Greg's Contracting Services can email becky@gregscontracting.ca and let her know which email you want your paystubs to be sent to.
