Canadian Standards Association
An association that works to develop standards for issues such as health and safety, quality of life, environmental protection, etc. for the protection and education of the public.
COR
Certificate of Recognition
Awarded to employers who develop health and safety programs that meet established standards.
CPR
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
A procedure to support and maintain breathing and circulation for a person who has stopped breathing (respiratory arrest) and/or whose heart has stopped (cardiac arrest).
GCS
GCS Energy Services Ltd.
Short form name for GCS Energy Services Ltd.
GD
Ground Disturbance
A course offering the student a complete understanding of what Ground Disturbance really is and how to undertake a Ground Disturbance
H2S
Hydrogen Sulfide
A colorless, toxic, flamable chemical compound often found in natural gas. Natural gas with a high H2S content is commonly called "sour gas".
 
H2S Alive
A course intended for all workers in the petroleum industry who could be exposed to hydrogen sulphide (H2S).
 PDF
 Portable Document Format
 A PDF file is a self-contained cross-platform document. In other words, it is a file that will look the same on your computer screen (and in print) no matter what kind of computer or printer you are using or what software package was originally used to create the original file. PDF is widely used in business to transfer files via email, etc. You need Adobe Reader to view PDF files, which is offered for free download from the Adobe web site.
QA/QC 
Quality Assurance / Quality Control 
Defined standards and activities intended to ensure that products (goods and/or services) satisfy customer requirements in a systematic, safe and reliable way, usually supported with written documentation, ie a QA/QC Manual. 
SFA
Standard First Aid
 Is the most commonly required training course in the workplace. In addition to CPR, this course offers valuable information and skills to the first aider so that he/she will be effective until EMS arrives on scene.
TDG
Transportation of Dangerous Goods
Transport Canada requires workers who handle, offer for transport or transport dangerous goods to be trained and possess a training certificate in handling or transporting dangerous goods or only perform tasks involving dangers goods while under the direct supervision of an employee who does possess a training certificate in transporting dangerous goods.
WHMIS
Workplace Hazerdous Materials Information System
Canada's national hazard communication program for hazardous workplace chemicals. WHMIS elements include appropriate labelling of controlled products and hazardous material, as well as comprehensive Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) and worker education and training programs.
